What is a crew cab vs regular cab vs extended cab trucks?
These days pickups are everywhere. Long gone are the days where trucks were vehicles that were made for work and utility. As the name implies, a regular cab truck features just one row of seating with a small amount of storage space and legroom. A regular cab was once the single way to buy pickup trucks. A regular cab is made for work, not for hauling your friends and family around.
As you might expect, an Extended Cab pickup (can also be called a Double Cab truck) is just a Regular Cab with more room behind the front seating. When first introduced, extended cab trucks were only available for purchase as 2-doors and had small jump seats in the back. Now sometimes known as a Double Cab truck, these trucks now feature slim, second-row doors for access to the cargo area. Even though there are 2 rows of seats, an Extended Cab truck wouldn’t be the best choice for road trips, even though it can haul more passengers.
While maybe not as clear as the earlier types, a Crew Cab pickup truck features 4 full-size doors and room to hold, well, your whole ‘crew.’ Crew Cab pickups are designed to haul more of the driver’s stuff and-or passengers. For some people, these pickups have become the family vehicle. A Crew Cab pickup’s larger size and powerful engines are not seen in the 4-door sedan market while still being able to provide the comfort and legroom that families need.
