The All-New Chrysler Pacifica Earns an Altair Enlighten Award
The revamped 2017 Chrysler Pacifica recently won the full-vehicle category in the fifth-annual Altair Enlighten Awards for innovation in automotive lightweighting as a result of the vehicle dropping nearly 250 pounds as compared to its predecessor. This award joins more than 50 others that the Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid models have earned.
More than 50 percent of the reduction is a result of engineers combining high-strength steel aluminum and cast-magnesium in the vehicle's innovative body structure, eliminating 168 pounds from the minivan's weight with no loss of strength or integrity. As a matter of fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Pacifica a Top Safety Pick+ rating and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it a five-star crash rating, so you can trust that you and your family are well-protected.
The lower body weight also helps the Pacifica receive best-in-class EPA ratings of 28 mpg highway and 22 mpg city/highway combined.
Phil Jansen, Head of Product Development, FCA North America, stated in a press release, "The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is a testament to our team’s engineering capability. It’s not only lighter than the vehicle it replaced; it’s longer, wider and more efficient. The Pacifica has also earned superior safety ratings and widespread media acclaim. We are proud to add the Altair Enlighten Award to its list of team achievements."
